My Road Home: The Dream List

Who knew that determining what you want out of your living situation was such a daunting task? For the past week I’ve allotted time everyday to sit down and reflect on what my dream home would include. When I started this exercise my biggest difficulty was eliminating the limitations and obstacles from my head. Although reflection time was intended to brainstorm any and everything I wanted out of my living situation, I often hindered myself by saying ‘that would be nice but’… I am too young, I don’t have enough money, or Black people in Colorado don’t live like that. After several days of criticizing my own ideas I decided to take a different approach. I would start with the more practical and work from there. Although I still haven’t completely let go of my pragmatic brainstorming, I’ve started to create a list that will give me something to look forward to over the years. Here is dream list so far:

What I need out of my living situation to be productive:

• Enough space to keep my things neat and organized
• Multiple rooms that offer a change of environment
• Clean and safe
• Comfortable bed where I can get a good night’s rest
• A desk where I can write and create
• Lots of natural lighting
• Space to store my books and brainstorm my ideas

Living that would make me happy:
• Bay window where I can sit and read in the sun
• Patio or deck to observe the outdoors
• Within walking distance of cultural activities and grocery stores
ONEriverfront park, Denver• Friendly, creative and outgoing neighbors
• Comfortable yet trendy urban living
Eco friendly
• Close to beautiful parks and green spaces
• Beautiful views
• A home that compliments my YS life style
• Creative space to display and work on my photography
• Friends nearby
• Close to light rail or other rapid public transportation
• Community activities like block parties, and neighborhood gatherings

The ultimate dream:
• A floating luxury vacation home
• Unique design and architecture
Aquarium by MocoLoco• A water wall
• A large tropical aquarium in my living room
• Decorative outdoor spaces for entertaining
• Cutting edge neighborhood
• Contemporary interior design
• Heated floors
• Integrated sound system and technology
• Game room with wet bar
• Hot tub
• Home office with private entrance
